Mike O'Toole - President of Great Western Malting

Mike O'Toole is the President of Great Western Malting. He is located at the Vancouver, Washington plant.

Mike has over fourteen years of public accounting experience last working as a Senior Audit Manager with Ernst & Young. He has been with Great Western and GrainCorp Malt for seven years. Prior to his role as President, Mike served as the Chief Financial Officer for GrainCorp Malt working out of the UK and Vancouver, WA offices. Mike currently serves as a Board Member for the American Malting Barley Association.

Mike holds a BA in Business and Accounting from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.

 

 

Brad Loucks - Commercial Director

Brad Loucks is the Commercial Director with Great Western Malting. He is located in the head office in Vancouver WA. Brad has a B.S. degree in Grain Science – Flour Milling Operations from Kansas State University.

After 8 years in the Flour Milling industry Brad joined Great Western Malting in 1990. In his career with Great Western Malting he has held positions as Raw Materials Coordinator, Drum Malt House asst. Maltster, Elevator Manager, Flexi/Compartment House Maltster, Grain Dept. Manager, General Manager Specialty Malts and his current role as Commercial Director. 

As Commercial Director he is responsible for all Bulk Malt Sales and oversight of Grain Procurement for Great Western Malting.

 

 

Rich Joy - Director of Malting and Technical Services

Rich Joy is the Director of Malting and Technical Services for Great Western Malting. He is located at the Canadian head office in Calgary, Alberta.

Rich possesses a Ph.D. in Developmental Plant Physiology as well as a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Calgary. Rich held postdoctoral fellowship positions with the University of Calgary and the University of Tohoku in Japan and spent time as a research associate with the National Research Council of Canada.

Following his time with the NRC, Rich began an extensive career in the Malting industry with Rahr Malting. He progressed from the Manager of Quality Control and Technical Services to Technical Director, Plant Manager and eventually Vice-President of Operations and Technical Director. Rich joined Great Western Malting in 2013 as Director of Malting and Technical Services.

In his role with Great Western Malting, Rich is responsible for quality, technical services, food safety and our North America labs for both Canada Malting and Great Western Malting in North America.

 

 

Dale Paul - Director Human Resources

Dale Paul is the Director of Human Resources for Great Western Malting, Canada Malting Company, and Country Malt/Brewcraft. He is located in Calgary, Alberta.

Dale has an extensive human resources background gathered from over 25 years of progressively responsible HR experience with previous companies in oil and gas, forest products, aerospace, education and healthcare.

He is currently responsible for leading all aspects of GrainCorp's people practices and HR product/service offering across North America.

Dale earned an MBA from the University of Calgary as well as a B.Sc. from the University of Regina.

 

 

Amy Mercy - NA Manager of Safety and Corporate Sustainability/Social Responsibility

Amy is the North American Manager of Safety and Corporate Sustainability/Social Responsibility for Great Western Malting, Canada Malting, and Country Malt/Brewcraft.  She is located at the US Corporate office in Vancouver, Washington. 
Amy has a BA in Broadcast Journalism from Western Washington University.  She is originally from Yakima, Washington.

Amy has an extensive knowledge and experience of the malting process beginning as a Laboratory Manager with Great Western Malting in 1989 at the Los Angeles malt plant.  A year later she became a Processing Supervisor in the site's Elevator and Malt house, which led to her job as a Corporate Malting Manager for both CMC and GWM.  Following this, Amy fulfilled the role of Plant Manager for several malting plants:  Los Angeles, California, Pocatello, Idaho, and Vancouver, Washington.  

In her role as NA Manager of Safety and Corporate Sustainability/Social Responsibility, Amy is responsible for a safe Zero Harm work environment, sustainability management, and the ethical framework of our processes throughout our North American businesses.

 

Bob McWilliam - NA Operations Director

Bob is the Operations Director with Great Western Malting & Canada Malting. He is located in Vancouver WA. Bob has a BSc (Hons) in Science; an MBA;  a Master Maltster diploma and has the IBD’s Diplomas in both Distilling and Brewing.

Bob started malting in 1985 and has worked in various roles in malting plants in the UK, Canada, USA and Russia.

As the Operations Director, he is responsible for all facets of the operations of the malting plants at Vancouver, Pocatello, Calgary, Thunder Bay and Montreal.
