Research

Great Western Malting is currently developing an extensive cache of R & D options and product development capabilities. This exciting initiative will soon culminate in a full blown pilot brewery (one barrel capacity) with built in flexibility for both gas & steam, a state of the art pilot malting facility with expansion into distilling and roasting competencies into the near future. With these capabilities, GWM will be at the forefront of innovation, providing much needed, new and novel products that will support the ever-growing malting, brewing and distilling sectors

Further to in-house capabilities, GWM has access to Phoenix Micro-malting units, capable of processing 200 – 1,500g samples. These units are used for continuing industry sustainability; specifically - new crop trials, collaborative samples (for both the USA and Canada), pre-competitive product development, new variety trials, breeders samples, etc. Examples of successful product development completed to date, includes sprouted grains and gluten free malting.

Our on site Malt Innovation Center is a testing center that allows us to use our malt in a brewing system to better understand our customer needs.
