On March 8, 2019, International Women’s Day (IWD), we welcomed 9 local women celebrity guest brewers and about 20 coworkers in our Malt Innovation Center to brew our Pink Boots Society Collaboration Brew.

The day started with doughnuts, fruit, coffee, tea and Safety Orientation. Then we fired up the brew and got busy. Throughout the day we offered a malt plant and lab tour, spoke about our Malt Innovation Center and Pilot Malting Unit, and held a panel discussion: Brewers vs. Maltsters.
The brew included Yakima Chief “Pink Boots Hop Blend” pellet hops that was developed at the Great American Beer Festival’s Pink Boots Society (PBS) meeting in Denver. The 2019 hop blend includes: Simcoe, Loral, Mosaic, Glacier and Sabro.

The annual brew day is Pink Boots Society’s biggest annual fundraiser. Last year, PBS had 260 teams participating and this year to date it has been over 375 teams (and still counting). Great Western Malting and Country Malt Group have been exemplary supporters of PBS from the beginning and have donated thousands of dollars to PBS.
